Seriously, I've been thinking about this for a while. In the past I've worked for an independent (Bounds), a chain pharmacy (Walgreens), and I have compounding experience. I've seen the good and bad of both. I've also attended numerous guest lectures this year and I think that I want to open my own pharmacy.
Why??
Because I like the idea of making my own decisions. I like the business aspect, but more importantly I like the idea of actually making my patients feel like they really mean something to me. Chains can't do that, no matter how hard they try. I believe that the pharmacy should be the main focus of a "Pharamcy"-not the afterthought in the back of the store after enticing you to buy everything else they sell. Yes, it involves long hours and taking great risks in just starting the business-but I don't mind these things. Thinking about it excites me. I want to be a leader to my workers and make them want to be there; not dread every second just thinking about work. I think about Donald Bounds and how I want to have the knowledge and intelligence he had in starting his pharmacy (I miss working there-and I don't think any of his past employees could honestly say differently). I want to specialize in compounding and develop news ways to deliver medications to patients.
So why does all of this come up now? I'm not sure. Like I said, I've contemplated it for some time now-and I've found that I have developed a passion for it. I have no idea how it will come about in the future, but I'm simply confident and happy in the possibility right now. And for once in a very long time I'm not dreading school, but actually looking forward to what I can do to make my ideas a reality.
It's a good feeling.

This sounds like an awesome idea! Did you work with my sister at Walgreen's? Anyway, good luck with this! What will you call it?
ReplyDeleteNo, I worked here in Baytown. It wasn't exactly a great situation either. Does she like working there?
ReplyDelete...Go for it! When I get tired of teaching, I'll answer your phones. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds great! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteAs the lemon print says, "It'll cost nothing to dream and everything not to."
ReplyDeleteGo for this if it is what you want. I'm thinking we would all be happier if we did what we wanted.
I want to teach high school accounting and move to Beaumont in one of my favorite neighborhoods. (Or at least that is what I want today.)
Good luck!
